‘The Lion King’ collects $75 million, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood grabs $40 million
The Lion King led the way for a second weekend in a row as it collected $75.5 million. As it dipped around 60%, the film fell much harder than expected in its second weekend. Its domestic cume now stands at $351 million. Film added another $142.8 million from overseas markets as its international total numbers now stand at $611.9 million and a worldwide total stands at $962.7 million. ‘The Lion King’ will join $1 billion club very soon. It has yet to open in Japan and Italy.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood landed as the runner up in the weekend at the box office with an estimated $40 million. This is the largest opening weekend for the director Quentin Tarantino, the film has surpassed the $38 million opening of Inglourious Basterds back in 2009.
Aladdin has also crossed $1 billion worldwide this weekend. It added an additional $2.9 million from domestica box office and another $7.2 million from overseas for a global total that now stands at $1.009 billion. This is the first ever film for Will Smith that has touched $1 billion mark.
