Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal has ruled himself out of India’s tour as his wife is expecting their second child later this month. National selectors have named Imrul Kayes as Iqbal’s replacement for the three T20Is against India. It is still unknown whether Kayes will stay on with the visiting team for the Test series too.
Tamim informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) about his unavailability for the tour. The tour includes three T20Is and two Test matches in November 2019 in India citing the expected birth of his second child.
The 30-year-old, who is Bangladesh’s top run scorer across the formats, had missed Bangladesh’s recent tri-series T20I tournament after poor run of form in ICC Cricket World Cup in England.
“Tamim had informed us earlier that he would miss the second Test in Kolkata but now he will be with his wife for the coming weeks,” Minhajul Abedin, who is chief selector, said.
Bangladesh updated T20I squad: Shakib Al Hasan (capt), Imrul Kayes, Liton Das, Mohammad Naim, Soumya Sarkar, Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mosaddek Hossain, Afif Hossain, Arafat Sunny, Aminul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Shafiul Islam, Al-Amin Hossain
