Pakistan Super League (PSL) will completely return to Pakistan for 2020 season. The initial 28-foreign players platinum pool has made the day for fans with many big names have been added in the list to visit Pakistan for the fifth edition of the tournament. The draft will be held on December 6.
Overseas names including South Africa legend Dale Steyn along with Colin Munro, Chris Lynn, Jason Roy, Alex Hales, Hashim Amla, Liam Plunkett, Chris Jordan, Kieron Pollard, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid and Ben Cutting. These players registered themselves to be drafted in the upcoming season of the league as platinum players.
The foreign players who registered to be drafted are from eight different cricketing nations; seven from England, six from South Africa, five from the Windies, and three each from Australia and Afghanistan. Two Sri Lankan players have been named in the top category whil New Zealand and Nepal will have one each. Their availability also depends on whether international commitments of the players clash with the PSL, which starts from February 20.
All franchises of PSL can retain up to eight players from their previous squads. Each category has a limit to do so: up to three players in the platinum, diamond and gold each; five in the silver catergory, and two emerging players. The Pakistan Cricket Board had also reduced the salary from USD 1.38 million to USD 1.1 million to complete a squad of a team.
The base price for the platinum category was $160,000 and the maximum for one player $250,000 in the fourth edition. Those caps now have been reduced to $147,000 and $218,000 respectively.
Each squad can name five overseas players and 11 local players. Franchises can also pick up two additional supplementary players, one can be foreign while one has to be the local cricketer. They can can choose only three players from the elite pool. Six players – three each – will have to be added from the Diamond and Gold catergories then rounded off with five players from the Silver and two cricketers will be be included from the Emerging Players list.
