Test Cricket: England call Jason Roy for Test at Lord’s against Ireland
England have named their limited overs opener Jason Roy for a 13-member squad for the one-off Test against Ireland at Lord’s next week. He played a key role in England’s ICC Cricket World Cup maiden victory. Roy has scored 443 runs in seven innings to be named in the Team of the Tournament.
This will be the first opportunity for Jason Roy in Test cricket. He is likely to open the batting at Lord’s as he does in white ball cricket for England. Joe Root will take his charge as England’s captain in red ball cricket.
Ben Stokes, who was Man of the Match in the final of Cricket World Cup versus New Zealand has been rested alongside England’s limited overs wicketkeeper Jos Butler. England fast bowler Mark Wood has been ruled out of cricket due to a side strain for four to six weeks. Jofra Archer has been rested for the match by the selectors but he is in doubt for The Ashes as well.
Archer, who was the leading wicket taker in Cricket World Cup 2019 for his side, might return for the second Ashes Test match as England are more positive on his injury.
