Breaking: Shoaib Malik retires from One Day Internationals

Pakistani all rounder Shoaib Malik has announced his retirement from One Day International cricket after Pakistan’s last game in ICC Criket World Cup 2019 against Bangladesh. Malik announced just minutes after Pakistan cricket team ended their not so memorable World Cup campaign with a 94-run win over Bangladesh.

The 34-year old was discarded by Pakistan team management after he flopped in three consecutive games against England, Australia and India. Malik was dropped and replaced by Haris Sohail. He last played for his national side against India at Manchester. He could not finish his career on high note and managed to score just 8 runs in three games at the ongoing Cricket World Cup.

Ex Pakistani captain was hoping to play against Bangladesh because it was supposed to be his farewell game but that did not happened as Pakistan team remained unchanged for their final game in the tournament. Shoaib Malik played 287 One Day Internationals for Pakistan and he scored 7534 runs including 9 centuries and 44 half centuries and took 158 wickets. He ended his two-decade long fifty over career.

Shoaib Malik will be focusing on next year’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
