ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson crush Sri Lanka

New Zealand started their World Cup 2019 campaign with a bang as their pacers Matt Henry, who took three wickets along with Lockie Ferguson, who also took three wickets in trashing of woeful Sri Lanka on Saturday.

After Henry’s initial breakthrough, there was a time where opposition looked capable of more. As Captain Karunaratne dropped anchor, Kusal Perera started scoring boundaries through the cover and gully regions, reminding a lot of people latter-day Sanath Jayasuriya. Only Dimuth Karunaratne scored a fifty (52*) for Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka could not face pacy bumpers from Lockie Ferguson on greentop. Dhanajaya de Silva was completely beaten by pace. Sri Lanka need to sort out those issues as soon as possible. They will have to face more pace bowlers in this World Cup, who will definitely direct some speedy bouncers.

In reply, New Zealand was a little bit edgy in the start but once the Kiwis’ openers, Martin Guptill and Colin Munro started hitting boundaries they never looked back. New Zealand won the match by 10 wickets. They chased the total down within just 16.1 overs. Martin Guptill scored 73* while scored Colin Munro 58*.

Sri Lanka is going to take on Afghanistan in their 2nd match of Cricke World Cup on June 4 at Cardiff. After super show against Sri Lanka, New Zealand will play their next game on June 5 at London versus Bangladesh.
