Australian Cricket Team’s Ups and Downs after World Cup 2015

Cricket Australia

Before the series against India in India, Australian Cricket team had been performing very poorly almost since reclaiming their Champions’ Status from New Zealand at MCG in the World Cup 2015. But after those comprehensive performances in the CWC 2015, they were losing everything in the world of cricket. They had snatched the Ashes Pride from England and certainly that was the only “Achievement” in this rough period of Australian Cricket history. It never looked the same Australian Team as it was in the past, they lost their charm and status. This was probably not enough to dent their cricket reputation as their “Superior Pair” (David Warner and Steven Smith) with a youngster Cameron Bancroft got themselves in a “Ball Tampering Scandal” and in a result, Cricket Australia imposed ban on the trio. After David Warner and Steve Smith, their cricket team started missing them really badly. Not only the results were going against them but they were completely outplayed by some oppositions like India (beating Australia in a Test series and in ODIs in Aus) and Pakistan (Whitewashed Aus in T20Is and beaten Aus in Test match series). Their players were not even up to their near best.

It was perhaps the easy decision to make Aaron Finch as Australian Cricket Team captain. Aaron Finch who is surely one of their reliable batsmen even in the presence of David Warner and Steve Smith- got struggling big time and lost his form badly. But credit goes to the selection committee and Aaron Finch who stuck with the same team even after their disastrous patch in the history of cricket. When they recently went to India for 5 One Dayers and a couple of T20is, definitely Australia were not the favorites for winning those series’, that too against the full-fledged Indian Team. But Australia managed to win both T20Is, though it was indeed a big mission and they accomplished it, but it was their ODI series’ conquest that left everyone around the world in shock. They have beaten India from 0.2 down and became only the fifth team to do so. Despite their poor run in the last couple of years, they’ve beaten India in India, which is perhaps the most difficult cricket country to tour. They were not getting any sort of victory in a match, leave series aside, it was not too long ago when they conceded the highest total of 481 vs England at Trent Bridge in ODI cricket history. Australia thrashed full-fledged Indian team which is surely a noteworthy attainment anyway.

There are a few individual performances that will please Australian fans, that includes, Aaron Finch for instance, under his outstanding leadership his men grabbed such a rare a series victory over the dangerous Indian cricket team, another player who impressed the most in the series was Pat Cummins, he is been so good with the red ball for a couple of years and now he finally proved his worth in white ball cricket as well, Cummins was the leading wicket-taker in the series with 14 scalps, Adam Zampa also played an important role in this series as he took 11 wickets at 25, he was struggling a lot before this series, in the absence of their regular opening batsman David Warner, Australia were also in search of opening partner of Finch, they finally have one in shape of Usman Khawaja who done an exceptional job as an opener in tricky spinning conditions of India, Khawaja led the batters in the series by scoring 383 with 2 centuries to his name. Australia’s fruitful season in cricket after so long is not done yet, as they done even worse with India’s neighbours, Pakistan. Australia whitewashed Pakistan in a five-match ODI series in UAE. Though Pakistan have not sent their regular 15, as they rested their main 6 regulars, including their captain, Sarfraz Ahmed. But still it is quite significant achievement for Australian cricket team because they were missing these sweet wins. Aaron Finch who was out of form, found his form of life. He almost made a record for his national side of 3 consecutive centuries when he scored 90 in the 3rd ODI after 116 and a career best 153* in previous games. Australian Captain finished the series as top run scorer with 451 runs and became Man of the Series. Now Cricket World Cup is just around the corner, their best dua (Steve Smith and David Warner) of the decade is ready to make it’s way back into the national side. Definitely this would help a lot in the process of retaining the CWC Trophy.
