Aussies Series will be his last says Morne Morkel

Morne Morkel decided to retire from international cricket after he play his last series against the Aussies. Morne Morkel retirement decision was more personal than professional. He said he look to participate in T20 leagues. Morkel also provided an assurance that he had not signed a contract with any other team.

The premier fast bowler for South Africa was linked with several counties since the last tour against England. I have loved every minut that I have played in Proteas Jersey, and I am incredibly grateful to my team mates. Morkel also said that he still strongly believe that there is lot of cricket left in me. And I am really excited about what lies ahead. For now all my energy and focus is on helping South Africa win the upcoming series against Australia. When SA were in England the fast bowler was contacted by at-least three counties, as Kolpak signing for 2018 season.

Morne Morkel was linked to Kolpak deal most recently during the test series against India. Indian media reported that Morkel’s Father said that his son needed to secure his future, and was considering the Kolpak option. But the 33 years old strongly denied that he was nearing retirement. There is still lot’s of goals that I want to achieve. He said on January 15th during the test at SuperSport park.

Family comes first

Its a family decision I put lot’s of thought in to it. He said its a right time for me to start the new chapter. SA premier bowler said that I have a young family. And my foreign wife Kelly Roz I still feel great mentally and physically, and Yes I will be playing the T20 leagues around the world. Morkel’s wife and their son Arias have spent last two summers in Australia while her husband is busy for playing South Africa. And Morne Morkel also turn down the offers to play for BBL because of his love his team. Out of respect to Cricket South Africa I haven’t signed any deal. He say that his focus will be winning the Australia series to end his career on high.

What will surprise the South African’s fans about Morne Morkel’s retirement, that he hanging his boots while at the top of his game. He was the leading wicket-taker against England. He had developed an impressive ability to pitch the ball up and find swing, and was among the candidates for the world Cup. Morkel also suffered a career threatening back injury in 2016. Which kept him away for most of the year. He missed the series against New Zealand, Australia and Sri Lanka. Morkel returned to the team in March 2017, in New Zealand but appeared a much improved bowler. He was also a leading wicket-taker for South Africa against England.
