Spinner Akila Dananjaya banned from bowling for one year
Sri Lanka’s spinner Akila Dananjaya has been banned from bowling in international cricket for one year because of an illegal bowling action. Spin bowler’s suspension is a result of the International Cricket Council’s automatic penalty for bowlers who have twice failed an assessment inside a two-year period.
Akila’s bowling action was reported after the first Test against New Zealand in Galle last month. He was assessed on August 29 at the ICC approved facility in Chennai and that found his action illegal. Once his one-year ban expires, the bowler can still approach the ICC for a re-assessment of his bowling actiona.
