Pakistan and Sri Lanka are all set to take their second shot in a two-match Test series in Karachi tomorrow. The pitch of National Stadium is expected to support the batsmen. However, there are some chances that the pitch will help the fast bowlers.
Prevously, the much-awaited return of Test cricket in Pakistan ended in an unwanted way in Rawalpindi, first Test match, where the teams could manage to send down only 167 overs in the rainy and dark days.
Though Pakistan were not happy with the outcome of the first Test, but the unbeaten centuries from opening batsman Abid Ali and their best batsman Babar Azam were the positives for Azhar Ali’s side.
Dhananjaya de Silva, who scored ton in Rawalpindi Test, made Pakistan’s bowlers realized that Sri Lanka have some batting depth in their unit that can fight against the hosts.
Fast bowler Usman Shinwari has already been dropped due to typhoid. While the leg-spinner Yasir Shah, who will make his Home Test Debut, is likely to play the Karachi game. Yasir’s numbers against Sri Lanka – 40 Test scalps from five Test matches – are the reason to give him place in the final XI.
For the visitors, Kasun Rajitha will probably provide his place to spinner Lasith Embuldeniya in the XI. The weather condition is going to be much more improved from 19 Decemer.
Pakistan have played 41 Tests in Karachi and lost only two of them. They managed to drawn other 18 Test matches. If Azhar’s team lose this National Stadium’s game, this will be the first time that they have gone without a win in a calendar year in red-ball cricket since 1991.
