Rashid Khan named Afghanistan’s captain across formats
Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan has been named captain for all formats. Leg spinner will take the charge from Gulbadin Naib. Afghanistan Cricket Board has announced on July 12. Gulbadin who had been appointed captain for ODIs, as part of a new split-captaincy system just before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
Rahmat Shah was given the Test captaincy while Rashid Khan was already named the captain of the T20 format. Now as Rashid Khan has been given leadership’s responsibilities across formats that means Rehmat concedes the captaincy of Test team even before having officially led Afghanistan in a match.
The ACB named Asghar Afghan as Rashid’s deputy, who led them already across the format before this Cricket World Cup 2019. They have lost all the 9 matches in ongoing Cricket World Cup in England which forced them to make Rashid Khan as their new batsman.
Rashid Khan’s first assignment as Afghanistan skipper will be a one-off Test versus Bangladesh in September.
