Pollard and Narine recalled for T20Is against India
The all rounder Kieron Pollard and spinner Sunil Narine have been recalled to the West Indies squad for the opening two T20Is matches against India. They have also named an uncapped wicketkeeper Anthony Bramble. Sunil Narine last played for West Indies back in 2017.
Earlier Narine had been informed by the new selection panel that he was in contention for ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 squad but spinner’s finger injury ruled him out. He had not played for West Indies in recent couple of years though but mystery spinner has been a regular and key player in T20 leagues around the globe. Kieron Pollard was part of team on the tour of India in 2018.
“We felt that players like Narine and Pollard, who have played well in T20 leagues around the world, once they are fit and mentally ready to play, we must give them the opportunity to represent the West Indies again,” Robert Haynes said.
The Dangerous Andre Russell has been named subject to passing a fitness test following the knee injury that forced him out of the ICC Cricket World Cup. John Campbell has also been added in the squad as Chris Gayle is unavailable due to playing in the Canada GT20.
Carlos Brathwaite will lead them against India. The first T20I of the series will be on 3 August at Lauderhill. The final match will be on 6 August in Guyana. West Indies and India will play three ODIs and three Tests as well.
