JP Duminy has been ruled out of the 2019 Mzansi Super League with a hamstring injury. He was diagnosed with a high-grade partial tear to his right hamstring after an MRI scan. Duminy had also missed last season because of a hand injury.
The left-hander batsman, who rertired from international cricket earlier this year, is the still highest scorer in T20Is for South Africa. Duminy is a vastly experienced cricketer as he has played in IPL, PSL and CPL .
The 35-year-old’s injury is a second such blow to the Paarl Rocks side. Aiden Markram was ruled out from tournament after he hurt his hand in a self-inflicted injury on the India’s trip.
Rocks captain Faf du Plessis believes the two setbacks offer a great opportunity for others to step up. “JP brings a lot of value in a lot of different areas. His experience will be missed, especially by the younger guys. I have full confidence in our team to bounce back from this. We have strengthened our batting this year and we’ll use this setback as motivation,” he said.
Kyle Verreynne has replaced Markram in the squad for ongoing tournament. “We will assess our options on Monday and then decide how to best replace JP,” Adrian Birrel, Paarl Rocks coach, in a statement..
