Seamer Craig Overton and spinner Dominic Bess have been called up to England’s squad tour of South Africa after leaving a number of players unwell in the camp. Overton and Bess are expected to land in South Africa on Saturday morning.
Fast bowlers Jofra Archer and Stuart Broad with the spin bowler Jack Leach have missed first warm-up game of the tour due to the bug. The trio was also absent from the field as tourists’ three-day game against South Africa A got under way on Friday.
Overton appeared for the Test match for England against Australia in the summer. He now will provide pace back-up for Archer and Broad – if they don’t recover from illness. Bess will offer some spin option if Leach does not recover for boxing day Test. The spinner played two Test matches for his national side against Pakistan back in 2018.
