Australia have named leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson for the third Test against New Zealand. The Queensland’s spinner is in line for a Test debut at the Sydney Cricket Ground, which starts from next Friday.
Swepson has appeared in Australia’s colours for a T20I against England last year. He was also the part of the Test team for both tours of India and Bangladesh couple of years ago. The leggie is yet to make his first appearance in red ball cricket for his national side.
Trevor Hohns, national selector, said, “Having Mitch in Sydney gives us the option to play two specialist spinners if the conditions demand. We will make those assessments when we get to Sydney.”
The 26-year-old has made his comeback to the Test squad because of his 12 wickets from six Sheffield Shield games that the spinner played for Queensland at 26.58.
