Cricket Australia named 15-member squad for ICC Cricket World Cup 2019
Former skipper Steven Smith and opening batsman David Warner have returned to the side after completing their one year ban. Australian Cricket has announced the 15-member squad for ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. CWC 2019 will feature 10 teams and will start from 30th May in England and Wales. Cricket Australia have backed Aaron Finch for his leadership charge.
David Warner and Steven Smith are out of action after that ball tampering controversy. But now they have been picked for the big tournament of the cricket. Both players are currently playing in IPL for their respective teams. Jhye Richardson and Mitchell Starc have been included in the squad, Both pacers are still recovering from their injuries. Starc who has not taken any part in last 13 ODIs is still recovering from his injury, while Richardson who dislocated his shoulder in UAE against Pakistan is also recovering.
A few omissions left everyone in shock, especially the omission of Josh Hazlewood and Peter Handscomb, Josh has been out of action since January, that might be the factor for his exclusion from the squad. Peter Handscomb who has been in terrific form with bat, has been missed out as well which is quite shocking, he has played each of their last 13 matches and averaging 43.54 and a good strike rate of 98.15. He has scored 3 fifties with a century to his name, Peter Handsocmb who is also a part-time wicketkeeper has helped them to chase the mammoth total of 359 against Indian in India which is their highest chase in the ODI history.
Alex Carey is the wicketkeeper in the squad, with the pace bowling unit of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Jhye RIchardson, Jason Behrendorff and Nathan Coulter-Nile. Adam Zampa and Nathan Lyon are the two spinners for the CWC 2019.
