South Africa great Hashim Amla has been named Cape Town Blitz batting consultant during the upcoming Mzansi Super League (MSL). This will be the first consultancy role for the batsman after his retirement from international cricket as a player.
Hashim Amla has annouced his retirement from international cricket after the Cricket World Cup 2019 and also withdrew his name from the MSL draft. He has joined Cape Town Blitz as a batting consultant.
The 36-year-old has been signed by Karnataka Tuskers to play in the Abu Dhabi T10 League, which starts from November 15. The right-hander has also signed a two-year Kolpak contract with Surrey. Amla will join Ashwell Prince’s team in MSL.
“Hashim has a wealth of experience and knowledge of the game and we’re really looking forward to him bringing that to our management team,” coach Prince stated. “There are obviously a few very promising young batsmen in our squad, and I think they will benefit immensely from having him around. It’s also an opportunity for him to explore whether a position such as batting consultant could be something that he might want to take up in future. I have no doubt that he’d do a great job at it if he did.”
Hashim Amla has played 154 matches T20s and scored 4284 runs at a strike rate of 126.14. He also appeared in 44 T20 internationals in which the batsman scored 1277 runs for his national side.
