Fast bowler Haris Rauf has been signed by Melbourne Stars for Big Bash League for ongoing season. Rauf had a good last season of Pakistan Super League where the pacer took 11 wickets in 10 games for Lahore Qalandars with brilliant economy rate of 7.41.
He has been named as cover for South Africa great Dale Steyn. The 25-year-old Haris Rauf has been playing club cricket in Australia for Glenorchy. He is playing in the country as the part of Lahore Qalandars Player Development Program.
Steyn’s BBL debut has now been delayed with his side strain injury that the bowler picked while playing for the Cape Town Blitz in the South Africa’s Mzansi Super League. Stars have decided not to play him in their opening match of the this season’s tournament.
“Our priority is Dale’s fitness and continuing his treatment,” Tommy Simsek, the Melbourne Stars physiotherapist, said. “He is very keen to play but we’ll let him rest after a long flight to Australia and put him in the best position to be ready for our match in Moe on Sunday.”
The South Africa’s most successful bowler in Test cricket is expected to take his part in the game against Hobart Hurricanes on Sunday.
