Big Bash League: AB de Villiers set to make debut for Brisbane Heat
South Africa’s legend batsman AB de Villiers is all set to make his debut in Australian Big Bash League during the 2019-20 season. He has been signed by Brisbane Heat. de Villiers will join Heat for the second half of the eight-team competition that runs from December to February.
The 35-year-old prolific batsman retired from international cricket back in 2018 and since then had attracted huge interest from BBL teams earlier this year but pulled back from committing to playing in Australia in May.
However, on Tuesday morning the Heat revealed they had signed Proteas great for the second half of the season.
The new Heat coach Darren Lehmann was pretty happy with AB de Villiers’ inclusion in the Brisbane Heat team.
“World-class players don’t just come along every day and to have a player of AB’s stature and skill in the BBL is a fantastic outcome for everyone, not just the Heat,” Darren Lehmann said. “He’s a 360-degree player, great skills, outstanding temperament, and an insightful leader. We’re excited to bring him into the group this summer and allow him to showcase his skills for the fans.”
