Australia leave Marcus Stoinis out of T20I squad
Australia have dropped all-rounder Marcus Stoinis from T20I squad following his poor ODI World Cup in England. They’ve recalled fast bowler Billy Stanlake and batsman Ben McDermott. Australia’s opening batsman Aaron Finch will be team’s captain. The squad will face Sri Lanka and Pakistan
Batsman Peter Handscomb and pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile have been dropped from the team while Jason Behrendorff wasn’t available for the selection due to his back injury.
“It is almost a year to the day until Australia hosts the men’s Twenty20 World Cup and we have selected this squad with that in mind,” Trevor Hohns, the national selector said. “We have looked to put a squad together that we think can take us through to that tournament. The squad we have selected is quite role specific and we believe it gives us the flexibility to thrive in all match conditions.
“There is always unlucky people when it comes to selection, and D’Arcy operates in the area where there just happens to be Smith, Warner and Finch, and it’s difficult to squeeze one of those fellows out. D’Arcy obviously is a standby player at this stage,” Hohns said.
Australia’s squad: Aaron Finch (capt), Alex Carey, Ashton Agar, Glenn Maxwell, Pat Cummins, Ben McDermott, Steve Smith, Kane Richardson, Mitchell Starc, Ashton Turner, Billy Stanlake, David Warner, Adam Zampa, Andrew Tye,
