All-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been discarded from the squad that will face India for ODIs in January. Maxwell has been dropped despite that fact he was available to play the game after a mental-health break. The squad will be led by opening batsman Aaron Finch.
The 31-year-old is all set to make his comeback in the Big Bash League this week where he will be leading Melbourne Stars. Trevor Hohns, national selector, said they will keep an eye on his form in the BBL.
“It is great to see Glenn Maxwell returning to the game in the Big Bash League,” Hohns said. “We will closely monitor his form after what would have been disappointing 12 months in the one-day game by his standards.”
Meanwhile Marnus Labuschagne has earned his place for the first time in the ODI squad following his superb form in longer format of the game. Labuschagne was also the Marsh Cup’s joint Player of the Tournament alongside team-mate Usman Khawaja.
There are some players who have been recalled for the trip including Josh Hazlewood, Ashton Agar, Sean Abbott, and Ashton Turner. While they have omitted many players from the team. Other than Maxwell, they have ommited many players from the team which includes Usman Khawaja, Marcus Stoinis, Jason Behrendorff, Nathon Lyon, Shaun Marsh and Jhye Richardson and Nathan Coulter-Nile.
Only eight players managed to keep their places in the national team to visit India from the World Cup campaign. Those cricketers are captain Aaron Finch, Alex Carey (vc), Pat Cummins (vc), David Warner, Steven Smith, Mitchell Starc, Kane Richardson, and Adam Zampa.
