Ajantha Mendis announces his retirement from all formats of the cricket
Sri Lanka’s mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis has announced his retirement from all the formats. Mendis started his international career in 2008 and last played for Sri Lanka in 2015 against New Zealand in Christchurch. He was the inventor of a ball known as the “carrom ball”. Later on, loss of form and injuries kept him away from intertnational cricket.
The 34-year old represented Sri Lanka in 145 international games across the formats. He took 152 wickets in 87 ODIs, 70 scalps in 19 Tests while he managed to take 66 wickets in 39 T20Is. He has the record of two six-wicket hauls in T20Is. Mendis became the fastest bowler in ODI to reach 50 wickets.
