Pakistan openers turned things in the favour their team after building a record partnership of 278 on day 3 of Karachi Test against Sri Lanka. This was the second biggest partnership for Pakistan openers. Abid Ali scored his second century of the series. He has become the first Pakistani batsman to scored two hundreds in first two Tests.
Abid went on to score a massive 174 at National Stadium. Shan Masood, who was doing nothing before this innings, finally paid-off and hit his second ton in red-ball cricket for his national team. Sri Lanka’s Lahiru Kumara broke the match-turning opening stand of Pakistan.
The right-arm quick removed Shan with a bouncer for 135. Abid and captain Azhar Ali added 77 runs together before the former was given IBL on 174. Azhar, who was having a horrible run with bat, finally managed to score his half-century. He is unbeaten on 57 with Babar Azam who is batting 22.
Kumara, after claiming 4 wickets in the first innings, knocked down both hosts’ opening batsmen. At the end of day three of second Test match, Pakistan are 395 for 2 in Karachi and leading the opposition by 315 runs.
